Designed by Marcel Wanders in 2003 for Royal Tichelaar Makkum, this large ceramic main course plate is from the same series of 30 plates as the Patchwork Parsley underplate from the previous entry. My favorite out of the entire series.

Designed by Marcel Wanders in 2003 for Royal Tichelaar Makkum, this ceramic underplate is one of a series of 30 differently decorated plates, made using different original plates from the traditional collection of Royal Tichelaar Makkum. It is partly silkscreened, partly painted by hand and is used in random combinations with other plates in the series on the table. Absolutely gorgeous.

The GX4100 Electric Grinder by Krups has sharp stainless steel blades that can quickly mince fresh herbs and dried spices and grind coffee beans from coarse to fine in seconds. I use it primarily for grinding seeds (cloves, cumin seed, coriander seed, etc.) for Indian dishes. It's so handy!

I've never baked a cherry pie or canned cherries to make homemade preserves, but I can't wait to get lots of fresh cherries after seeing this Cherry Pitter by OXO. It has "a removable splatter shield that directs juices downward and prevents them from soiling your work area. When not in use, the splatter shield fits inside the front chamber and a lock holds the Cherry Pitter closed for convenient storage. Sturdy, die-cast zinc construction removes pits with ease, and soft, comfortable non-slip handles absorb pressure while you squeeze."

The Iittala Arabia Love Moomin porcelain plate depicts Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden from Tove Jansson's Moomin series adorably embracing each other. Designer Tove Slotte-Elevant transferred the original drawings to Arabia's Moomin products. When I was a kid I always thought the Moomins were hippos, but they're actually trolls.

At first glance the combination of fabric, wood, and very padded seat gives an immediate impression that the Knicker chair is comfy to sit on. Well, it is! Available in chalk or dark roast upholstery with walnut legs.

Designed by Design Glut, the Hookmaker is a good example of combining ordinary objects, in this case — a glazed earthenware tile and half of a teacup — to make something extraordinary.
